The Le Vigne di Zamò Pinot Grigio Friuli Colli Orientali (FCO) DOC Ramato 2023 Bio is an organic “copper-style” white wine that pays homage to the historical winemaking traditions of Friuli. Unlike typical clear Pinot Grigios, this “Ramato” (meaning copper) is achieved through brief contact with the skins, resulting in a wine that sits somewhere between a full-bodied white and a light rosé.

Sensory Profile

  • Appearance: A striking and bright copper colour with deep pinkish or “onionskin” reflections.
  • Aroma: The nose is frank and intense, opening with floral notes of rose and wildflowers. It is enriched by fruity hints of pink grapefruitwhite peach, and exotic fruits, rounded off by complex scents of yeast, vanilla, and fresh bread crust from its aging process.
  • Palate: It is a warm, broad, and structured wine with a “glycerine” (silky) mouthfeel. The palate is balanced by a distinct savoury mineral trail and fresh acidity, finishing with persistent, slightly perceptible tannins.

Production & Technical Details

  • Vineyard Origin: Grapes are sourced from the hills of Manzano and Rosazzo (Udine) at altitudes between 300 and 450 meters.
  • Organic Craftsmanship: This 2023 vintage is certified Bio, produced without pesticides or chemical fertilizers.
  • Vinification: The grapes are destemmed and undergo a cold maceration overnight to extract the characteristic copper hue. Fermentation occurs in stainless steel, and a portion may undergo malolactic fermentation in wooden barrels.
  • Aging: The wine stays in contact with its fine lees for approximately 8 months (with weekly battonage) to develop complexity and a creamier texture before bottling.
  • Alcohol Content: Typically 13% to 14% vol.

Serving & Food Pairing

Best served at 10–12°C. Its unique structure makes it more food-versatile than standard Pinot Grigios:

  • Seafood: Pairs excellently with prawns, scallops, and steamed crustaceans, as well as fish-based first courses like seafood risotto.
  • Regional Specialties: Ideal with Prosciutto di San Daniele, cured meats, or Friulian frico (cheese and potato dish).
  • Main Courses: Complements white meats (chicken or turkey) and even bold flavours like mildly spicy Asian cuisine.
